On the ceiling of the Jefferson Building in the Library of Congress are inscriptions from John 1:5: “The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not" and Proverbs 4:7: “Wisdom is the principal thing therefore get wisdom and withal thy getting, get understanding.”

On a frieze on the Supreme Court Building—a marble relief of Moses holds the tablets with the Ten Commandments. And embedded in the floor design at the National Archives, the Ten Commandments again.

On the façade of Union Station are engraved three verses—one from John 8:32: “...the truth shall make you free.”
